A commitment to education has always been a key part of the Indaba Wines’ philosophy. Established in 1996, a portion of the proceeds from the brands’ global sales funds the Indaba Scholarship, awarded to financially needy and academically deserving students to pursue wine-related studies at graduate and post-graduate levels in South Africa.
By providing sustainable financial aid to individuals, Indaba Wines aims to assist these students in realizing their personal dreams while furthering South Africa’s economic development. In addition to monetary support, the scholarship program — administered in conjunction with Stellenbosch University — provides students with mentorship, career coaching and life skills development.
The Indaba Scholarship has supported eleven students to date. The first recipient of the program, Mr. Mzokhona Mvemve, became one of South Africa’s first certified black African winemakers after graduating from Stellenbosch University in 2003. The 11th Indaba Scholarship was recently awarded to Ms. Hanri Ferreira, an undergraduate student of Viticulture and Oenology at Stellenbosch University.
